Oliver's first camping trip

We packed up all our stuff and drove over to Salt Creek campground, just east of Port Angeles for a weekend of camping.  My mom took the ferry over from Victoria and met us there.  She got there a few hours before us and had already set up camp and gotten food for the weekend.  This was luxury camping (or "glamping" as Mike would say...) - just check out some of the perks compliments of my mom....

We borrowed a GIANT tent from our friends Jen and Andy who have a son Oliver's age.  This tent is so big it had a separate room for Oliver's pack n' play!  It was perfect and Oliver slept really well.

The best part of the trip was how much Oliver loves spending time with his grandma : )  He calls her grandma "poo".  "poo" is his word for computer and we video skype my mom regularly on the computer so that name has stuck.  Grandma was trying to get him to call her grandma "sue" all weekend but this just made him think it was great fun to call her grandma poo, which it is ; )  She also brought her bulldog (Lulu), who is very quiet and slow moving.  Oliver is normally not a big fan of animals, but after a while, he started petting her and chasing her around.

On the ferry on the way to see grandma!
Grandma Poo brought Oliver a whole bunch of new books!

I love my grandma
Oliver brought his own lawn chair and went straight to work catching up on his reading

Actually touching Lulu - big step for Oliver

I think he actually likes this dog

Oliver woke up a little early and snuggled in with Grandma in her sleeping bag

Wait - this is mama's chair!

Oliver has been practicing his "jumps" and asked Grandma to jump with him...

Even Lulu joined in on all the fun

We all headed out to explore the low tide after Grandma made up pancakes for breakfast

Lulu even went for a little swim

"Big rocks"

We had to strip him down to his diaper after he sat down in the wet mud/sand on the beach and tried to eat it!  We did our best to "be one with the dirt"...

The only downside to the trip was that it poured rain for most of it!  We got creative with the tarps and dug some trenches to drain the lake that developed in our campsite.  Oliver didn't mind the rain at all.  He kept saying "ice down?".  If you don't know - "ice" is oliver's word for water.  Luckily, grandma brought Oliver 6 new books and the two of them did a lot of reading!  We did manage to go explore the area when the rain let up, but it made for some pretty wet clothes and shoes for Oliver.

Blue tarp camping at its best!

Lulu found the only dry patch of ground

Oliver didn't mind the rain at all!  Check out the lake in the background...

we dug some trenches through camp to drain the lake

we made it to the playground when the rain let up for a few minutes

another dry spot!

everyone loves the swings!

We finally got a fire going with Oliver's help

It was a little smoky with all that wet wood

Grandma and her two babies going for a walk

It sure is nice to have someone else take him down the slide for a change!
We all had a really great trip.  Oliver loved being outside so much and getting to see his grandma.  We left Sunday afternoon and headed home for a long bath!  That boy was dirty.
